The Year to Read

Wow!!!  Can I just say 1st graders learn new material VERY quickly!  We have gone from the beginning of the year (just 4 1/2 short weeks ago) with some children still struggling with letter sounds, to many students reading MULTISYLLABIC words.  I have to give kindergarten teachers and parents a shout out!  You guys ROCK!  The kids are rolling along very well. They are also doing well "tapping" out words as they write them.

Please continue working on the first 100 sight words.  These words are so important for fluent reading.  Many words just cannot be sounded out. They have to be memorized to become part of the sight vocabulary. Sight words are also the words that occur most frequently in texts.
