Spelling Words

  1. thing                                        6.  thank
  2. thunder                                    7.  that
  3. wreck                                       8.  wrist
  4. wrong                                       9.  wrap
  5. taller                                      10.  falling
From now on we will be breaking our spelling words into syllables (as needed) before spelling them.  Don't forget to practice this with your child at home.  It makes spelling longer, multisyllabic words easier.  Try it with thunder, taller, and falling

Example: When we clap the word, we see that there are two syllables:  thun-der. The first is "thun."  I tap out each sound as students write it: /th/  /u/  /n/.  Keep in mind that the "th" work together to make one sound.  The next syllable is -der.  They should hear /d/ /r/, with a reminder that the /r/ sound is spelled with two letters in a chunk we have studied earlier, like in flower.
